This tooth is from a brand new discovery and something we just brought back November 2014 from our trip to Morocco! The conditions these teeth are collected in are rough, causing many damaged teeth, we selected the best and hand picked these specimens. Always checking for no repair (fillers etc), quality serrations, and color.
Minor damage is common from this locality during collection, many are now being "repaired" to hide these imperfections and offered at much higher prices. This tooth is a great collector grade specimen for its condition and serrations. An absolute shame this tooth was damaged while being collected, it still is a beautiful tooth to study. Hand selected as one of the best from our recent collecting trip to Morocco.
This amazing Megatoothed shark tooth is the ancestor of one of the most feared marine predators to have ever excisted on Earth, the Megalodon! Also very similar in appearance to Carcharocles auriculatus (an extinct Giant White Shark)
Presented here is a natural, non restored, showing a couple serration dings and both cusps placed back and glued, measuring in at 2.95" C. megalodon ancestor tooth (Megatooth) from near Dakhla, Western Sahara (Morocco), Africa. It was collected on an exposed sea side cliff, having been eroded out of the Eocene Period formation and deposited in the ocean. Many of these teeth exhibit breaks or damage from the dense sandstone, which they are exposed.
Carcharocles sokolovi (Jaekel, 1895)
