Austerops smoothops (CHATTERTON et al., 2006)
Devonian, Eifelian Stage (400 Million Years)
Timrhanrhart Fm., Zguilma, Morocco
Expertly cleaned by one of our trusted trilobite fossil preparators, here is a specimen we just brought back from our trip to Morocco in November 2014. No restoration has been done to prepare this specimen. Taking hours to days at a time for a single specimen, pneumatic chisels and air abrasives are used to expose specimens as these.
Presented here is a fairly common trilobite that is known as "Phacops" as a common mislabeling. Famous for it's detailed eyes and broad body form, making for a perfect palm size study piece or presentation specimen. This particular specimen exhibits an amazing dark green calcite shell and was beautifully prepared and sculpted out of the found host rock. A wonderful study grade specimen of an ancient Devonian beast exhibiting wonderful eye details!
