Flexicalymene retrorsa
Ordovician Period (488-443 Million Years)
Mt. Orab, Ohio, USA
Expertly cleaned by microscope and microabrasion techniques to fully clean this specimen. No restoration has been done during preparation.
Presented here is an enrolled trilobite that is known as a "Flexi" as a common nickname. When found in an enrolled position, it is commonly thought this was a defensive "enrollment" for the trilobite to protect itself from being prayed upon. Famous for it's abundance within the Ordovician Period marine outcrops, it is an index fossil. These Flexicalymene from Ohio are wonderfully detailed and their calcified shells shimmer nicely!
