Vein Agate

from Kerrouchene, Morocco

Agate : 2.83 x 1.19 in

1 inch = 2.54 cm

This specimen shows fantastic orange and red coloration inside the larger fortification of agate as well as white orbs inside the opposite side.

We collected these agates in late 2014, they have been cut and polished by us at AETC!

The wonderful and varied agates from central Morocco are found in the small rural village of Kerrouchene (also spelled Kerrouchen). The region itself is well known for apple farms and scenic rolling hills, which are still farmed in the same fashion as hundreds of years ago - using animals and manual labor. The “seam” or “vein” agates formed in textbook fashion along the triangular intersections within the basalt formation. In contrast, the nodule agates are collected out of the apple farm fields themselves and come up with every mule push through the fields in the low valleys.
