Pappocetus is an extinct type of whale that lived during the Middle Eocene period. It was part of the early stages of whale evolution from land to sea. This species came after Pakicetus, which is the earliest known whale, and before Zygorhiza. Pappocetus had a body that was more like a whale, with streamlined shape, paddle-like front legs, and much smaller hind legs. Its strong teeth and roots suggest that it hunted for prey in the water using smell and vision. It probably didn’t have the echolocation system that modern whales use.
